The internet is quite a minefield for fun and educational resources geared at children. This post contains a list of sites online that host significant educational resources that can complement what kids are being taught in school. Though there are sites where you have to register and pay to gain access to learning materials, there are also those that are completely free. Here is a list of some of the best free educational websites online (in no particular order), so feel free to check them out:
PBS Kids – This website is great because kids can find their favourite PBS characters and each of these characters have fun learning games kids can play with. They have Cat in the Hat, Clifford, and so much more. This site is perfect for kids of ages 3 and above.
Wonderopolis – We all know how kids have rather short attention spans but that ceases to be a problem with this site. Wonderopolis always has something new to offer everyday in the form of amazing facts and wonders (presented in the form of questions). Different wonders are presented, giving families a chance to learn something new everyday. This site is perfect for kids of all ages.
National Geographic Little Kids – With National Geographic, you know you cannot go wrong. The site has lots of free games, arts and crafts, videos and animal information, to mention a few. It is mostly geared at kids aged 5 and under. There is however, the National Geographic Kids site for kids aged 5 and above.
Fun Brain – What I like best about this site is that it has reading and math computer games. Some of my personal favourites are the Mad Libs and the Math baseball games. They also have games that parents and kids can play together. Visit this site for games, books, comics and lots more. This site is best for kids from their preschool stage till the 8th grade.
Jumpstart – Discovering the free educational tools here will require some work since they also offer paid memberships but they have tons of free stuff like printable books for kids of all age groups. This site also offers kids the opportunity to learn through online learning games on subjects like mathematics, vocabulary, science, art, etc.
Pottermore – J.K. Rowling had this site created so that kids could get the chance to enjoy books, games and other interactive features from the Harry Potter Series. This is one site both kids and adults can enjoy.
Spatulatta – Learning isn’t just about classroom subjects, which is why we recommend this cooking site for kids. It has tons of videos and recipes that kids can try on their own or with the help of an adult. The website aims to foster cooking skills in children and help them explore different recipes. This site is recommended for grade 3-12 kids.
